VIDEO: Learning Disrupted in Mwamgunga High School As Students Protest

On Friday, October 22, learning came to a halt as students at Mwamgunga high school in Kwale county walked to the streets to protest a fee increase and unsuitable food.

The move angered parents too and they also joined their children on the streets.

The parents and their children paralyzed activities on the Kombani-Kwele route, generating a massive traffic jam that lasted more than three hours.

The parents claim that their dismay began when their children were taken home, despite the fact that they knew they had paid the administration the money promised previously.

“My daughter is in form three. I had cleared her fee but later on, she was sent home. I added a bursary of Ksh3,000 but I’m still being told that I’m yet to clear with the finance office,” one parent angrily remarked.

According to the parents they claim that their children have found the school to be utterly unpleasant due to a lack of food, water, and proper restroom facilities.

“Even the toilets are closed because they have no water. To use them, a student has to come with water from home. How is that fair?” Complained another parent.

Thye also added that they had reported teh matter to Kwale County Education Office but all seemed to have fallen on deaf ears.
