West Ham Create Own Downfall Against Arsenal

West Ham were masters of their own downfall as they surrendered a 3-0 lead to draw 3-3 against Arsenal in a thrilling London derby encounter at the London Stadium on Sunday, March 21.

An 82nd-minute header from Alexandre Lacazette completed a remarkable Gunners comeback after they fell behind to first-half goals from Jesse Lingard (15), Jarrod Bowen (17), and Tomas Soucek (32).

Lacazette played his part at the beginning of the sensational response by the Gunners when his shot deflected in off Soucek for an own goal in the 38th minute before another in a similar fashion from Craig Dawson to reduce the margin to one goal.

West Ham were finally shellshocked when Lacazette met Nicolas Pepe's cross to secure a share of the spoils.

It was a replica of the Hammers' game against Tottenham Hotspur on October 18, 2020, when they however battled back from 3-0 down to go away from the Tottenham Hotspur stadium with a point.

This result now endangers their hope of closing in on a Champions League place as they remain fifth on 49 points, two behind Chelsea in fourth.

As for Arsenal, the result moves them up to ninth after Aston Villa lost 2-0 to Spurs afterward.
