DCI Arrest Three In Kwale For Being In Possession Of A Pangolin

The arrest comes after the detectives received a tip from the general public that the three, Pas Mwiti, Kabwere Tembe, and Salim Nduria, had the endangered mammal

The sleuths lured the vendors from their hiding place while posing as merchants involved in the illegal sale of the species. They then quickly arrested them and saved the animal.

Two of the suspects tried to free the pangolin but the detectives chased after it and restrained the suspects and the animal after a short while.

The group and the animal were eventually transported to Nairobi after a dramatic case with detectives.

The suspects are currently being questioned about the matter at the DCI headquarters in Nairobi.

The pangolin was placed at the Nairobi Animal Orphanage under the care of Kenya Wildlife Services staff.

Pangolins are an endangered species and one of the most trafficked in the world because pangolins command a high price on the black market due to the fact that its scales are used for luxury cuisines, financial rituals, spiritual protection, and traditional medicine

Although it is unknown how many pangolins are remaining in the wild, scientists and campaigners claim that the number is rapidly decreasing.
