The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has published Timelines ahead of the August 9th general elections.

According to the commission, the timelines will guide the commission in planning for the August 9th polls this year.

According to the statement published by the IEBC, the commission has outlined several issues ranging from party primaries, submission of party registers and the list of aspirants.  

The Commission draws the attention of political parties intending to participate in the upcoming General Election to the following statutory timelines. The Commission urges political parties and independent candidates to adhere to the timelines and shall periodically provide updates on General Election activities," Read part of the statement.

The Commission further directed all the political parties to submit the list of all the aspirants to the commission before Saturday, April 9th

Also, the commission has further directed all the political parties to conduct party primaries and nominations by 22 April. After the nominations, the parties will be expected to submit the names of the aspirants who have been nominated by the 28th of April.

The IEBC has also urged political parties to adhere to the law during the nominations adding that it will not clear aspirants whose nominations do not comply with the law.

“The Commission shall reject a Nomination Certificate that is not duly signed or bears any alterations," read the statement.

Presidential aspirants have also been required by the commission to submit filled forms to the commission before the commission by Monday 23, may for clearance.

Submit, duly filled forms of supporters bearing the names, signatures, identity cards/passport numbers of at least 2,000 voters registered in each of a majority of the counties.

"Corresponding copies of the identification documents of the voters who have appended their signatures in support of their candidature, and an electronic list of supporters in a Microsoft Excel spreadsheet format,” read the directive by the IEBC.
