The decision to move the 12-hour trip from day to night was made after the company received client input.

"Depending on the demand, we may also reintroduce the day train in due course,” Philip Mainga said.

Mr. Philip Mainga, Kenya Railways' Managing Director, stated that the train will be a reliable mode of transportation for revelers and residents of the Lakeside region who wish to go on Friday and Sunday nights.

The train will depart Nairobi Central Station at 1830 hours on Fridays and arrive in Kisumu at 0630 hours. Every Sunday, the train will depart from the New Kisumu Station at 1830 hours and arrive in Nairobi at 0635 hours.

As the corporation aims to expand its services to Butere next month, train fares will continue at Ksh.600 for economy class coaches and Ksh. 2,000 for first-class coaches.

The train will stop at Kikuyu, Naivasha, Nakuru, Njoro, Elburgon, Turi, Molo, Mau Summit, Londiani, Kedowa, Kipkelion, Tunnel, Fort Ternan, Koru, Muhoroni, Chemelil, Kibigori, Miwani, and Kibos before arriving in Kisumu.

The new service will start on Friday, June 10, and will take passengers on the journey between the two major cities every Friday and Sunday.

The Kenya Railway Corporation purchased seven additional trains for the Nairobi-Kisumu route earlier this year to accommodate increased passenger demand between the two regions.
