Kenyan Businessman Joseph Escapes From Burundi Custody

Burundi authorities have now launched a massive hunt for Kenyan businessman Joseph Mboya Nyamuthe who escaped from custody on Wednesday 21st.

The suspect Mr. Mboya was arrested on April 2021 after he was accused of drug trafficking in Burundi where he runs several businesses.

Joseph escaped at the time was taken to Rumonge Hospital for treatment by the deputy head of the Murembwe Prison Hospital, Mrs. Adeline Ndayisenga.

However, following Mboya`s escape, two police officers who were assigned to guard him at the hospital have been arrested. The escape is believed to have been arranged by the rebels fighting the Burundi Government.

Mboya had launched a pharmaceutical company before his arrest in Burundi in 2019. The company was unveiled by late President Pierre Nkurunzinza.

He was then arrested amid allegations that he and his associates were using the company to export and import illegal substances in the East African country.
