Kimilili MP Didmus Barasa Surrenders To Police

He surrendered to the police after the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) sent out a team of specialized officers to aid in his pursuit.

He reportedly turned himself to the Bungoma police department as he was wanted in connection with the killing of his opponent's campaign assistant.

His attorney, Dr. John Khaminwa, filed a motion in court to prevent the MP-elect for Kimilili from being detained and argued that there was insufficient proof connecting Barasa to the murder.

This was in an effort to stop the manhunt launched by the DCI for the newly elected MP suspected of murder.

The Senior Counsel claimed that although investigations had not been made, Barasa had already been falsely implicated in the killing of an aide to his rival.

"Mr. Barasa has been branded a murderer without due process being followed, thus prejudicing his right to a fair trial. The court, therefore, needs to grant him bail pending arrest," Khaminwa argued.

Barasa was accused of allegedly murdering Brian Olunga by shooting him dead on Tuesday, August 8, in Chebukwabi in Kimilili, Bungoma county.
