The Kenya Union of post-primary education teachers (Kuppet) has resolved to call off a nationwide strike that was planned to start next week.

Through their secretary-general Mr. Akelo Misori, the union said that it has resolved to end the planned strike to pave way for a smooth running of the national examinations that are set to kick off next week.

The union has however said that teachers will not report to work in insecure areas citing places such as certain areas in the rift valley, Mandera, North rift, West Pokot saying that the government should guarantee security of teachers.

His sentiments come as a relief for form four candidates whose national examinations are scheduled to start on the 11th of march this year.

The union had threatened to go on a nationwide strike if the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) does not meet the needs of the union to re-negotiate the 2021-2025 Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA).
