Charles Wangui, the suspect, was apprehended after a forensic report connected him to the incident, and he helped the sleuths locate the claimed weapon, a Ceska handgun.

“Through the application of forensics, several suspects were placed at the scene of the offence and after further analysis at the DCI National Forensic laboratory, a suspect identified as Charles Wangui was arrested,” read the DCI statement.

“Today, the suspect led the detectives to a farm in Chaka, where he had hidden the firearm and two magazines loaded with a total of 28 rounds of 9mm, in a shallow hole.”

The DCI claims that following a disturbance near the man's car on the Marua-Chaka road, Wangui snatched the bag containing the pistol from the man’s car, a civilian employee based at the National Police College Main Campus-Kiganjo.

“As the multitude that mobbed his vehicle chanted songs of victory, a group of men snatched a bag placed on the back seat of his vehicle and took off to an unknown destination. The stolen bag contained the Ceska pistol, a firearm certificate a wallet and other valuables,” stated the DCI.

The man went to the Kiganjo Police Station to report the event and detectives from the Crime Research and Intelligence Bureau were then sent to Kiganjo to look for the gun.

Further questioning of the suspect, according to a report from the DCI, also resulted in the finding of hard drug sachets at his flat.

“Upon conducting a further search of his house, sachets containing drugs suspected to be heroin were recovered." Part of the report read.

Prior to his Friday arraignment, the suspect is being questioned while in detention to identify the other members of his crew.
