The victim is alleged to have died in a pub in Kangaru market on Monday night.

Jecinta Matheka, the deceased's mother, stated she was called around 11 p.m. that night and told her son was being beaten up in the pub.

Matheka said that when she arrived, she pleaded with the bartenders hitting Musyoki and his two friends to let them go, promising to raise the price if they didn't.

She claimed that despite paying Ksh. 2,000 of the bill, the bartenders continued to beat the lads, demanding the remaining Ksh. 1,000.

Matheka explained that after a neighbor helped settle the remaining amount, they took the boys to the Kerugoya hospital in Kirinyaga County because Embu health facilities were closed due to an ongoing strike, but Musyoki died during the admission process.

“We took them to hospital, but when we were continuing with the admission process, he died just as he was being processed,” she said.

The family said that Musyoki and his companions should have been transported to the neighboring Kangaru Police Station instead of being exposed to such a merciless assault.

In a separate incident, a 26-year-old guy has been detained in Kirinyaga County for reportedly killing his friend for refusing to share a beer bottle with him.

On Tuesday, the two were allegedly drinking together in a neighborhood pub when a long-time friend passing by the place offered to buy them a drink.

The two, identified as Boda Boda riders on the Sagana-Karatina highway, disagreed about how they would share the beer bottle.

According to Ndia Sub-county police commander David Kabena, who confirmed the occurrence, the suspect was arrested on Tuesday by police and taken to Baricho Law Court.

“Currently, the suspect is being held at Sagana police station after Baricho law court allowed us to investigate for 14 days as witnesses continue to record statements,” Kabena said.
