NCIC Summons ODM Leader Raila Odinga over Hatespeech Remarks

Orange Democratic Movement leader Raila Odinga has been summoned to appear before National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) in response to remarks he made at a political rally on March 9, 2022.

In a statement, the NCIC said that the madoadoa remarks are considered a hatespeech term in Kenya which the commission is mandated to fight.

"The National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) has today summoned HE Rt Honorable Prime Minister Raila Odinga in response to remarks made in his meeting in Wajir county on 9th March 2022.

"In his remarks, he mentioned the term 'Madoadoa'which is considered a hatespeech term in Kenya.

"The Commission wishes to assure Kenyans of its commitment to curbing any form of hate speech, to ensure Kenya remains a stable, prosperous and cohesive nation, and to deliver on our promise of

Elections Bila Noma," the statement read.

His madoadoa remarks elicited sharp criticism from Kenyans, especially the Kenya Kwanza Alliance leaders who have been demanding that he be treated the same way as Meru Senator Mithika Linturi who made similar remarks at a rally in Eldoret.
