Sakaja has been trending recently on Twitter after the Independent and Electoral Boundaries Commission (IEBC) gave him until June 13 to respond to his degree questions.

Titus Tiego, chair of the IEBC Dispute Resolution Committee, issued the decision, which granted Sakaja's lawyer, Adrian Kamotho, a request for more time to file evidence. The Senator also requests that one of the IEBC commissioners withdraw from the hearing.

The four petitions filed against Sakaja sought to have Senator Sakaja's IEBC clearance revoked due to questionable academic credentials.

Dennis Gakuu Wahome, one of the petitioners, sought to have the Senator removed for failing to meet the constitutional requirement of having a degree.

He claimed that the Senator had filed a form in 2017 claiming to be a graduate of the University of Nairobi (UoN).

John Orindi, UoN's Communications Director, issued a clarification to the media, confirming that the Senator was yet to graduate.

"It is true Sakaja was admitted to the university and was pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Actuarial Science, studied from the first year up to the fourth year, but is yet to graduate," Orindi stated.

Furthermore, according to the Commission on University Education, the Senator was cleared by IEBC using academic certificates from Team University in Uganda.

He also denied being the person named in the petitions challenging his eligibility to run for governor of Nairobi.

While dismissing the petitions as fatally flawed, Sakaja claimed that he was not the Sakaja Koskei Johnson named in the complaints filed with the IEBC Dispute Resolution Committee.

"The person cited as the 1st Respondent in Complaint No. 230 of 2022, one “SAKAJA KOSKEI JOHNSON” is a complete stranger to the election for the position of Governor, Nairobi City County," Sakaja stated.

Sakaja clarified in his replying affidavit that his Bachelor of Science in Management degree from Uganda's Team University is genuine.
