Boda-boda operators all over the country have been encouraged to have all the important documents as they present themselves for the ongoing countrywide registration.

Boda-Boda Riders Encouraged to Have the Proper Documents as Registration Kicks-off.

According to Murang’a county commissioner Karuku Ngumo, most of the boda-boda operators do not have the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) Pin certificates and other important documents needed in the registration process.

Karuku stated that the operators could be at a risk of being forced out of business once the countrywide exercise is over.

Karuku spoke at the first day of the registration exercise at the Murang’a Huduma center and used the opportunity to acquire the documents.

Take advantage of this exercise since the government has waived the registration fee. Acquire the needed documents and visit Huduma centers near you and get registered within the two months,” Mr. Ngumo said.

The countrywide registration of Boda-boda operators to apply for new smart license kicked off on the 28th march 2022.

Speaking at the launch, Interior ministry principal secretary Karanja kibicho, he urged the operators to register for the exercise saying that the exercise was intended to remove criminals and other rogue elements that have infiltrated the sector.

Karanja spoke at the Kerugoya Huduma center in Kirinyaga county.

The decision to register for the smart driving licenses was reached last week when the Cabinet Secretary Ministry of interior Dr. Fred Matiang’i met leaders from the sector.

The boda-boda sector made headlines when some members from the sector were accused of assaulting a female motorist along Forest road in Nairobi county.

In Nyeri County, the exercise was launched by the Infrastructure Department director Mr. Abednego Etyian who said that the exercise would ensure discipline on the roads.

“Let the riders in Nyeri and everywhere in the country be informed that anybody who will not participate in the exercise will not be allowed on our roads as we are keen on streamlining the transport sub-sector and promoting road safety and security for the operators and their customers,” Abednego said.
