HAKI Africa Staff Shipeta Mathias Resigns to Join Politics

Shipeta Mathias, a member of the Humanity, Activism, Knowledge, and Integrity (HAKI) Africa staff, announced his resignation on October 5th in order to actively join politics.

According to a letter dated 5th October Mathias stated “in line with the fact that HAKI Africa is a non-partisan and a non-political organization, I hereby wish to make public my resignation from HAKI Africa in order to join active politics.

He continued saying “in tandem with this news, I wish to express my candidature for the office of the member of county assembly Mikindani Ward in the next general elections. This has been a very hard decision to make considering the gains and success I have achieved while working in HAKI Africa.

On the other hand, Mr. Mathias added that “as a Rapid response officer, I have enjoyed working with the Human Rights organization and am honored to have served the community in this capacity for 4 years.

He concluded “My decision to run for office has been greatly influenced by the desire to bring change and reforms through political accountability.
