The Interior CS claimed that his ministry was once pressed by Ruto, who wanted former Rift Valley Regional Commissioner George Natembeya fired.

“For the time I have been at the Ministry of Interior I can say this publicly, he likes to quote God and God is seeing all of us talking here. The pressure under which we have come before to even sack Natembeya for example,” Interior CS stated.

The CS stated that DP Ruto wanted all regional commissioners appointed during his tenure fired, but provided no justification for the action.

“I have not seen a regional commissioner that the DP did not want sacked. We came under intense pressure to fire Natembeya even as county commissioner in Narok, then as regional commissioner in Rift Valley from him, insisting he must be fired even without providing reasons why we should fire him,” Matiang'i stated.

The CS was responding to Ruto's statement on Thursday, in which he accused Rift Valley Regional Commissioner Maalim Mohamed and other leaders of attempting to create chaos on election day. He also stated that they held night meetings with people to plan violence.

"The Regional Commissioner of Rift Valley, Maalim Mohamed, the County commissioners Samson Ojwang of Trans Nzoia and Stephen Kihara of Uasin Gishu and Erastus Mbui of Nakuru are part of this scheme. They are the people holding night meetings to plan conflict amongst Kenyans," DP Ruto made the address at his home in Karen on August 4.

Matiang'i also urged the Deputy President and his team to refrain from profiling government officials tasked with securing the country.

"These unsubstantiated allegations are consistent with frequent, unfounded, and unconscionable attacks against the government and public officers by His Excellency the Deputy President. The government is run through established and well-known structures and accountability channels," CS Matiang'i stated.

Matiang'i also accused DP Ruto of jumping to conclusions before the government had completed its investigations into the spread of hate leaflets in some parts of the country. The CS went on to say that if the DP had provided police with evidence to back up his claims, he would have helped with the investigations.

"There is no official record made or proof offered by the DP or his associates in support of deterrence and deserved punishment for anyone engaging in the alleged acts. Like everyone else, the DP has an obligation to report on potential crimes," Matiang'i stated.
