According to a statement issued by IEBC Chairman Wafula Chebukati, Cherare was unanimously elected during a plenary meeting conducted at the Commission Boardroom on Tuesday 14th September.

The electoral board also informed all stakeholders and the general public that a free, fair, and credible general election will be held in 2022.

"The commission takes this opportunity to congratulate Cherera on her appointment," reads the statement in part.

However, the appointment of Cherare comes barely 2 years after the resignation of Connie Maina in 2018.

This drastic change happens less than a year as Kenya`s Elections are set to happen in August  2022.
