Mufutu Residences Urges KWS To go for Strange Leopard Mauling Dogs

According to the area Nyumba Kumi leader Justus Lusweti the residents have been leaving in fear for days after a mysterious animal has been eating up their dogs at night.

“I have lost many dogs. I had 20 dogs, but most of them have been eaten, and I know many other villagers who have lost dogs, nearly 50 dogs have been killed, and eaten,” Lusweti stated.

He further added that the  KWS should come and control the situation before the matter gets out of hand.

“I am urging the KWS to come for their animal. I have had to sleep with my dogs in the house because they are likely to be mauled by the wild animal,” Lusweti said.

Many villagers recounted a number of times they heard their dog barking uncontrollably seeking help to avoid an attack from the strange animal.

“I woke up the following morning and was shocked to find my dog lying dead, most of it eaten,” said Muhembi.

"You will hear dogs barking uncontrollably at night, the noise rents the entire village,” said Wanjala.

“This is why we have had to move our livestock from their sheds, instead of spending nights with them inside our houses. We don’t know what it is," he said.

Additionally, residents claim that officers from Kenya's Forest and Wildlife department were informed of the attacks and have already visited the village.

“The officers came to the village. They are in the process of laying a trap to try and catch it before it causes more harm.”

“So far, based on its behavior the officers said it could be a leopard which has the tendency of living in thickets and forested areas, and along river banks near human settlements,”a resident said.
