Legendary Iran striker Ali Daei has congratulated Portugal striker Cristiano Ronaldo for equaling his long-standing record as the highest-scoring footballer in international football.

Ronaldo scored two goals from the penalty spot in Portugal’s Euro 2020 Group F draw against France on Wednesday night to take his tally to 109 goals.

In his congratulatory message, Daei said, “Congratulations to Cristiano, who is now one goal away from breaking the men’s international goal scoring record.”

“I am honored that this remarkable achievement will belong to Ronaldo-a great champion of football and caring humanist who inspires and impacts lives throughout the world.

Daei who is now 52 years is considered as one of the best Asian footballers of all time where he scored 109 goals from 149 matches.

The legend played his last match for Iran in 2006.

Ronaldo is currently the highest-scoring footballer in the history of the European Championship with 14 goals, 5 ahead of the second person Michael Platini.
