Ukraine and Russia Officials Begins Peace Talks at the Ukraine-Belarus Border

Talks between Ukrainian and Russian delegations in Belarus began just before 1 p.m. Ukrainian time (6 a.m. ET) on Monday.

Ukraine's delegation includes several high-ranking officials, but not Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelensky himself.

The country demanded an “immediate ceasefire and withdrawal of Russian troops from the Ukrainian territory” in the lead-up to the meeting.

Earlier it was reported that the talks kept being postponed due to logistical and safety issues.

In his address on Sunday, Ukrainian President Zelensky said that he didn’t expect a breakthrough from these talks.

But, he added, they should try and use this chance even if it is small so that no one can blame Ukraine for not trying to stop the war.
