UN Chief Guterres Calls for Action as Tigray is on the Brink of Famine
United Nations secretary-general Antonio Guterres has called for urgent humanitarian action to save the lives of thousands of people in the Tigray region, Ethiopia as they are at the brink of famine.

According to a statement by SG Guterres, he said that several areas in the region are on the brink of famine.
Guterres said the situation will worsen unless the need for funding is increased and humanitarian access is improved.
Famine in the Tigray region is a double tragedy to the region that has been witnessing conflicts for the last six months.
Several people have lost their lives and thousands being displaced following the conflict between the Special Forces of the Tigray Regional government, and the Ethiopian government.
The violence saw the US imposing wide-range restrictions on economic and security assistance to Ethiopia including visa restrictions on Ethiopian and Eritrean officials and others who are accused of atrocities.
