The Mt. Kenya University third-year student, Elijah Ochieng, passed out during the physical exercises that generally accompany shortlisting.

The 26-year-old was given First Aid by the police but died before reaching the hospital, his body was then transferred to Busia's St. Francis Mortuary. A postmortem will be performed to determine the reason for his death.

Despite enrolling for an undergraduate degree at Mt. Kenya University, Ochieng's family said their kin harbored hopes of joining the Police Service. Therefore he joined hundreds of others in the latest police service recruitment to see if he could achieve his goal.

The Police Service held a nationwide recruitment exercise on Thursday, intending to hire 5,000 new officers. The exercises were carried out in different parts of the country and those who qualify will be taken in for the Police service training.

In Bungoma county, another man was denied the opportunity to join the Police Service as he has extra fingers and toes. After the verdict, he is seeking for the government to allow him to join the police service claiming that he is healthy enough and he was born with those extra features.

He has tried to join the police multiple times as but keeps failing each time due to the same reason. Meanwhile, he will continue to pursue his dreams as he waits for his opportunity in the police service.
