DPP Haji Orders EACC to Comb 5 IEBC Officials

Haji ordered the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) to look into five IEBC officials who were involved in the illegitimate and irregular registration and transfer of voters to the Balambala Constituency in Garissa County and the Eldas Constituency in Wajir County.

The representatives are Abdullahi Musa Mohammed, who previously served as the returning officer for the Balambala Constituency and is now the returning officer for the Wajir North Constituency, and Adan Salah, who previously served as the ICT officer for Wajir County and is currently the ICT officer for Garissa County.

The other two are Ali Noor Hussein, the returning officer for the Balambala Constituency, and Mohammed Maow Abdi, the former deputy returning officer for the Balambala Constituency.

The IEBC's preliminary investigations led to the officer's involvement in the unauthorized registrations.

Hussein Marjan, CEO of the commission, sent the file to the DPP.

"The alleged registration and transfers of voters to Eldas Constituency in Wajir County and the Balambala Constituency in Garissa County by the aforementioned IEBC staff is contrary to Sections 3 and 6 of the Election Offences Act, 2016," Haji said in the letter dated August 4.

"Consequently, pursuant to Section 5(2) (b) of Office of the Director Public Prosecutions Act and Section 21 of the Elections Offences Act, T hereby request you to institute comprehensive investigations into the said allegations and thereafter submit the resultant investigation file for perusal and further directions."
