Chief justice Martha Koome has said that the decision was reached after the conduct of some judicial officers that has brought condemnation to the entire judiciary.

Due to the failure to live up to the ideals of ethical conduct at times, we have heard accusations lodged with the Judicial Service Commission and Office of the Ombudsman, both on social media and mainstream media that some amongst us make decisions that are motivated by considerations that are inconsistent with the judicial oath of office,” Koome said.

The chief justice spoke during the official opening of the annual judge’s colloquium at whitesands Beach Resort in Mombasa yesterday.

Koome noted that in the wake of corruption allegations being made against judges, the judiciary was pursuing a goal of ensuring efficiency, transparency, accountability and effectiveness.

In addition, we have also partnered with EACC to undertake a thorough systems review of the Judiciary and make recommendations on how to seal loopholes that are being exploited to further corrupt activities.” She added.
