The chairperson of Wushumbu Ranch, Kasigau in Voi, Mr. Jimmy Mwamidi, has received livestock from the WWF. The chairperson said that the ranch received 210 goats, 51 sheep, 200 beehives, and 500 poultry.

Mr. Jimmy said the addition to the ranch would benefit the Kasigau community in various ways and help them conserve nature.

“The WWF donation will help conserve nature and reduce the most pressing threats to biodiversity,” Mr. Mwamidi told The Standard.

The threats include commercial and subsistence poaching, environmental degradation, and wildfires, a huge setback for the area.

“This donation will promote affirmative action to ensure employment opportunities are available to locals. We will engage the local community through capacity building,” he said.

The donation will lead them to train vulnerable groups such as single mothers, widowers, orphans, the elderly, and youth before being given beehives and poultry to practice more diverse farming activities.

This comes after the WWF started a partnership with the Tsavo Conservation Area to prevent the causes of the increasing wildfire cases in the area. They donated several items to the ranches and constructed water reservoirs in different regions of Tsavo, including Kasigau.
