Police Officer Hangs Himself In Tharaka Nithi County

According to preliminary investigations, Simon Chege, a police officer assigned to the Chogoria Police station, committed suicide under mysterious circumstances.

County Police Commander Donatha Kiplagat indicated that the officer hanged himself early on Tuesday morning.

Police in the county have launched an investigation into the incident where no suicide note was found to explain the officer's reason for killing himself.

The deceased had been involved in an accident a day before and had been released from Chogoria PCEA hospital.

The landlord of the flat where the officer was residing said that two officers had gone to visit Chege after he was released from the hospital.

They knocked on the door severally but there was no answer and their calls to the officer also remained unanswered.

Since their efforts to access his house proved futile, the police officers asked for a knife to cut the wire that had been used to fasten a window. The door had been locked by a padlock from the inside.

The officers opened the window and saw the dead body of the victim hanging from the roof with a shirt and rope around his neck.

Chege was described as a kind and high-spirited officer who did not exhibit any signs of stress or sadness by the landlord and a neighbor.

His body was taken to the Chogoria PCEA Hospital mortuary pending an autopsy.

In a separate incident three days ago, on Sunday morning, a 42-year-old man from Ruguti village in Igambang’ombe Sub-County in Tharaka-Nithi County reportedly committed suicide after accusing his wife of being unfaithful.
