According to the community’s regional deputy spokesperson Joseph Wainaina, there are over 2.4 million voters from the community in the region, and their votes usually play a key role in deciding who wins the presidential election but when it comes to appointments, they all go to those in Central region.

Wainaina who spoke in Eldoret town says going forward, the Agikuyu community in Rift Valley will be demanding a share of appointments for Cabinet Secretaries, Principal Secretaries, and parastatals among others before committing to supporting any political groupings ahead of any general election.

“We are over 2.4 million Akikuyu community members who live in Rift Valley but when we join our brothers in Central to support a side that forms the government, we are never considered in appointments,” noted Wainaina, a prominent businessman in Uasn Gishu County.

“Today, we have no single Agikuyu community member who is holding the position of Cabinet Secretary, PS, or other appointments in government that we helped form,” he added.

Wainaina further affirmed that the Agikuyu community members in Rift Valley will fully support Deputy President William Ruto’s 2022 presidential bid, and expressed optimism that once he forms government, they will be considered.

“You must take money to the bank before asking for a loan from it, so come 2022, we will support Ruto then later we will go for him to ask for something in return,” noted the Rift Valley Agiku community deputy spokesperson.
