Embattled former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko's personal doctor has revealed that Sonko requires hip replacement surgery.

According to the medic, the surgery to be undertaken in South African requires urgent attention since the latter has already developed arthritis which is said to be severe.

Dr. Esther Wekesa of the Kenyatta National Hospital told the court that if the condition is not arrested soon, the repercussions could range from bone collapse or to an extent fracture.

Dr. Wekesa stated that they had settled for Dr. Robert Van Der Plank based in South Africa to attend to Sonko. With the specialist unable to travel to Kenya now, Sonko will be required to travel for the medic's appointment.

Sonko is fighting to cleanse himself from charges related to terrorism, which saw him being dramatically sneaked from the hospital bed for a court arraignment.

Sonko's co-accused persons have since been released after the prosecution declared that they won't be facing charges as earlier on stated.

The pair had been arrested alongside Sonko over the terrorism allegations. The case is set for mention on March 3, with the magistrate expected to give further directives concerning the medical report.
