Former CJ Willy Mutunga Questions Mama Ngina Kenyatta’s Decision to Shave off Former Mau Mau Field Marshal Muthoni Wa Kirima's Dreadlocks.
Former Chief Justice of the Republic of Kenya Dr. Willy Mutunga has questioned Former First lady Mama Ngina Kenyatta’s decision of shaving former Mau Mau Field Marshal Muthoni wa Kirima off her dreadlocks.

Taking to his twitter account, Mutunga has cited fears that the former Field Marshal consent was not sought, where the dreadlocks were taken and what would remind her of her revolution.
“As a political detainee I am very pained by this ritual. Did she really consent? Her dreadlocks were her legacy as a revolutionary. It reminds me of the humiliation meted out to Wangari Maathai in prison when her dreadlocks were cut off. So, where are the dreadlocks?” Mutunga said.

On Sunday, the country was taken to shock as video circulated on social media showing Mama Ngina Kenyatta shaving off Muthoni’s dreadlocks.
During the struggle to independence, Mau Mau fighters used the dreadlocks as signs of defiance against the British colonizers.
At the time Muthoni was being shaved the locks it was revealed that the locks were over 70 years old.
Muthoni, during the Mau Mau struggle, was fighting against the British and on many occasions, she nearly died. Muthoni also experienced two miscarriages that left her unable to bear children something that did not make her lose her fighting spirit.
According to History, most Mau Mau fighters had dreadlocsks which were mostly for their identifications and to show their loyalty.
Other Mau Mau leaders who had dreadlocks included Dedan Kimathi.
The origin of the dreadlocks is not only attributed to Kenyan fighters but most fighters in the continent. With most of the colonial fighters staying in the forest most of their hair would eventually intertwine because of lack of combing the hair.
