Ituru Boys Students Strikes as School Head Denies them Midterm Break

Students of Ituru Boys Highschool in Gatundu South, Kiambu County destroyed various school properties on Thursday 4th Morning after they were allegedly denied permission to go home for half-term that was announced by the Ministry of Education on Tuesday 2nd that students should take a mid-term break between November 19 and 23.

Details sourced by Bright Kenya news reveal that the students began by shouting before devolving into pandemonium, which resulted in the school bus being trashed before being overturned and finally being left at the gate.

Ituru location chief John Kihiu Njane, confirmed the incident, saying that the students had damaged the dormitory and administration blocks window panes with stones.

He also added that the students had made no substantive complaints to the school administration to justify their outrage, instead of blaming the turmoil on the influence of students from neighboring institutions.

“We have started investigations to ascertain what happened. Some students have been instructed to return on Monday while others will be resuming their studies on Tuesday,” Njane said.

The incident Comes barely days after various schools including Buruburu Girls high school in Nairobi County, Sigalame boys in Kakamega county amongst others were shut down indefinitely following students unrest in the country.

On Wednesday 2nd it was alleged that Chavakali Boys students went on a rampage where they caused huge destruction in the school. It is also alleged that the students went ahead slaughtered a bull, roasted and shared it among themselves.
