Police are investigating the incident where Naajam Masood is believed to have killed himself with a belt.

According to the hotel management, he rented the room on April 2 and stayed there alone until Wednesday evening, when the body was discovered.

Police are looking into whether he committed suicide or was murdered and his body dumped into the hotel room.

According to police data, at least 483 persons committed suicide between March and June 2021, with Kiambu topping the list of counties with the greatest number.

Other cases of suicide were recorded in most regions of the country, with men having high numbers compared to women.

The youngest who committed suicide last year was just nine years after a suspected confrontation with parents over poor performance.

According to the police, at least one suicide incident has been reported every day in the city. Officials have linked the rise to societal pressure and have called for action to combat it.

Annual crime records from the Kenya National Police Service show that 1,442 people attempted suicide between 2015 and 2018.

The figures show a significant increase, given that the Kenya National Bureau of Statistics (KNBS) reported only 196 suicide incidents in 2019.
